MADRID, SPAIN - JUNE 01: Spanish Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba (R) says farewell to Kate and Gerry McCann after their meeting at the Interior Ministry on June 1, 2007 in Madrid, Spain. Gerry and Kate are in Madrid to spread the word in the search for their missing 4-year-old duaghter Madeleine

Madrid

A mystery sample of DNA was found, on 1 June, in the bedroom from where Madeleine disappeared. The DNA did not match that of the McCanns, their three children nor that of Murat. The PJ handed the sample over to the national forensic science laboratories, the Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal, and stated that there is a new suspect

GLASGOW, UNITED KINGDOM - JUNE 01: Pupils at Bankhead Primary school release yellow balloons for missing Madeleine McCann on June 1, 2007 in Glasgow, Scotland. Around 400 hundred balloons were released all with a tag attached containing Madeleine Appeal information.

DIary

FRIDAY, JUNE 1: Quite fed up...I can't stop thinking about Madeleine, about her fear of pain. How can I go on knowing that her life could have ended like this?

This week I have been quite overtaken by black thoughts. Please, God, bring her back.

Bedtime is becoming more and more of a challenge.

With the help of the British Embassy we had a very busy day. First of all we had a short briefing from the ambassador and her staff. We then had a series of meetings with: multiple non-governmental agencies involved in child welfare, did a TV programme akin to Crimewatch focussing on Madeleine’s disappearance, a press conference which was well attended, a couple of short US news channel interviews with European coverage and finally met with the Spanish Minister for the Interior (Home Secretary equivalent). We left Madrid feeling as if the Spanish were treating Madeleine’s disappearance like one of their own.
Meanwhile in Portugal Phil arrived with thousands of posters in different languages. Most of these have been delivered to the Irish centre at Fatima and more at Lisbon airport. Planning a family day tomorrow. Will weigh up next phase of the search over the weekend.

On 1st, the records begin at 19:37:01pm on the antenna "Airport Sub-Basement" showing the return to Portugal and to Praia da Luz. From Lisbon to this village there are the following records: "Airport Sub-Basement"(19:39:01 and 19:42:40); "Airport Baggage"(19:52:30, 19:55:48 and 19:55:54); "Encarnacao" (20:06:36, 20:06:50, 20:13:29 and 20:19:44); "Vasco da Gama Bridge" (20:47:44 and 20:48:52); "Atalaia-Lisbon" (20:58:40); "Palma A2" (21:19:31, 21:21:08 and 21:27:23; "Grandola Sul" (21:40:53); "S.Joao de Negrilhos"(21:49:43, 21:49:53 and 21:50:45); "Vale da Corte A2" (22:04:20); "Solteiras A2" (22:10:50); "Agueda A2" (22:15:26, 22:16:25 and 22:18:15); "Monte Alto IC4" (22:48:42); "Lagos" (22:58:43); and "Praia da Luz Centre" (23:49:55).

DIARY:
SATURDAY, JUNE 2:
I can't remember today (which is now yesterday!). The morning was spent doing paperwork. I wrote a letter to JK Rowling, asking for her help in keeping M in the public eye. She has a new Harry Potter book which will come out in July. I asked if it would be possible to do something like a bookmark with M on.

An enjoyable afternoon—I never felt so relaxed. I felt it was wrong. S and A had fun and that was important. I also worried about what people might think, like "How can they manage to...?"

It seems that Sean is liking the beach more these days. We had tea in a nearby restaurant—good, despite still thinking that I had to do normal things without feeling guilty. We left around 7.30pm and the kids were completely exhausted.

Fed up again —poor M. Once again it took a long time before S and A were sorted. Finally went to church for 10 minutes.

Private worship (despairing!).

Cried again in bed—I can't avoid it. I need her close to me. Thinking about her fear of pain breaks my heart. Thinking about paedophiles makes me want to tear at my own skin. Of course these people, like psychopaths, aren't "normal" human beings. I was never in favour of the death penalty, but these people should be kept in a secure place. I wouldn't even complain if it was in nice surroundings, but, certainly in the case of paedophiles always distanced from any type of contact with children.

Whose human rights are more important? Those of a paedophile or of a vulnerable, defenceless child?

Relatively quiet day. Did manage to repsond to some e-mails regarding campaign issues with some excellent ideas coming through. We did visit a local beach with Sean, Amelie and the rest of the family who are here and managed to get a bite to eat. Having a huge number of media reuests in but want these to be very focussed in areas that will have clear benefits in the search for Madeleine. We did do a German TV and newspaper interview which wiil be released tomorrow to incraese awareness ahead of our planned visit to Berlin later this week. Most of the Sunday newspapers will carry some of the interview as a British reporter sat in and asked a few more quetions related to the campaign strategy.

It over-nighted in Praia da Luz and there it remained until, according to the existing records, 13:55:10 on 2 June, activating at this time the antenna "Lagos". There followed "Ladeira do Vau" (14:14:39); the antennae serving Praia da Rocha at 16:35:44, 17:53:50, 17:58:04, 17:59:17, 17:59:58, 18:01:16, 19:44:31 and 19:48:23; "Arge IC4" (20:11:08); and "Lagos Norte" (20:11:08). Returning to Praia da Luz, where it activated antenna "Praia da Luz Centre" at 22:46:11.

Sun June 3
3 June... Nothing of note  3/6 Gaps : 08:02 - 11:15 , 14:54 - 17:07

From that time until 15:40:37 on 4th there are only records from antennae that serve the village of Praia da Luz.
Was encouraged to learn of the large volume of information which has come through the Leicester incident room following the appeal. Hopefully the Portuguese police will have had a good reponse also and we hope to meet with them in the next couple of days for an update. Chris and Les, who travelled over with the huge inflatable banner which has been positioned near the Spanish border, are heading home today. They were very happy that the director of the Algarve tourist board allowed them to put it up in private property owned by them, with thousands of cars passing every hour and seeing Madeleine’s image and details of her disappearance and reward. Sunday papers have reported our interviews virtually verbatim but vey disappointed that the blog was lifted almost in entirety by one newspaper yesterday after expressly forbidding such an approach! The blog is to keep people visiting the website up to date
with our progress in the campaign to find Madeleine.

Mon June 4

4 June... Nothing of note  4/6 Three Burgau pings within seconds at 16:09
Before this was a 15:29 and after was a 16:14 (both in Luz)
4th - Kate's Burgau pings on the 4th June had no matching activations for Gerry.
Busier day today with travel arrangements for Berlin and Amsterdam finalised. Leaving tomorrow night and coming back Thurs afternoon. It will be a very busy schedule similar to Madrid. On Thurs night there is a music festival in aid of Madeleine in nearby Lagos which we will be attending. Tonigh, we were interviewed for Crimeatch which will be shown on BBC1 tomorrow night. This was a very good opportunity to recap on all the information which is in the public domain and re-emphasise the appeal, especially since the description of a suspect seen carrying a child was released by the Portuguese police after the initial British appeal. As well as some reports from Crimewatch, you may see a picture of me in a green and yellow find Madeleine t-shirt in tomorrow’s paper. The t-shirts were brought over by Phil and later on I thought better about wearing it around the resort she was taken from. I am sure all the people who have chosen to continue their holliday here, rather than take an alternative location, know about Madeleine’s disappearance and don’t need a further reminder.

The next registration takes place on the antenna "Lagos" at 16:26:46. New activations occur on the antennae of Luz at 16:32:49, 16:34:18, 16:34:54 and 16:40:52, returning to the antenna of that city [Lagos] at 16:43:36. It returns to Luz at 17:13:49.

Comparing with the records of Kate that activated the antenna "Burgau I", it is possible that Gerald had gone for a walk with his wife.

After returning to the village where he was a guest all the records until 10:18:16am on 5th are made on the repeaters serving that village.

Portimao Relocaliza?" at 13:02:12; "Penina" at 13:06:34 and 13:07:24; finally returning to Praia da Luz, where it activates on that antennae at 13:24:56.

On this day, it starts activating, at 16:05:21, a different antenna that serves Praia da Luz - "Monte Alto IC4". Following that: "Alcantarilha" at 16:20:50; "Guia" at 16:22:31; "Ferreiras" at 16:24:40; "Quartos" at 16:34:25; and "Faro Airport" at 16:51:12 and 17:04:39.

DIARY

TUESDAY, JUNE 5: Woke up relatively late again, around 7.30am, with a good morning wake-up call from S and A. Adorable!! I just wish it had been all three of them that came into the room. After a shower and breakfast, I took S and A to the Kids' Club. I asked if they could make birthday cards for their Grandma and Gerry—today is his birthday but I had forgotten which is not surprising!

Met with the Portuguese Police today. It is good to talk face to face especially with so much speculation in the media. Kates parents arrived today to see the kids and us. We managed to spend a couple of hours with them before heading off for Berlin. I had completely forgotten that it is my birthday today, it is anything but a happy one. However Sean and Amelie made me a birthday card on behalf of them and Madeleine and Trisha made a fruit flan. We sang happy birthday and blew the candles out together which Sean and Amelie really enjoyed. They were really happy to see Grandma and Grandad, whom they are used to seeing every few weeks in England. Kates parents have been a huge help to us, especially since the twins were born, often driving down to Leicestershire for the weekend to help with the kids. This has been really important when I have been on-call at weekends and Kate would have been left looking after the three of them on her own. Trisha would often fly down to help when she had a few days off or when her and Sandy were en route to Cambridge. It makes us feel better knowing that we are leaving Sean and Amelie with very close loved ones whilst we are away on this short trip to appeal for further information and raise awareness of Madeleine’s disappearance. Arrived in Berlin. Another busy programme tomorrow with TV, press, and politicians to see and then straight on to Amsterdam for more of the same. It all helps in the search for Madeleine.

Berlin, GERMANY: Kate (R) and Gerry McCann, parents of missing 4-year-old British girl Madeleine McCann hold up a picture of their daughter during a press conference 06 June 2007 in the German capital Berlin. Kate and Gerry are in Berlin to raise awareness and to ask German tourists for help in the search

Wednesday June 6

• While in Berlin, Madeleine's parents are forced to deny any involvement in her abduction when asked by a German journalist if they had anything to do with her disappearance.

6th... Not in Portugal

Today seemed to go very well with huge interest in our search for Madeleine. There has also been a little bit of criticism in the German press about the amount of media coverage but this did not seem to diminish the level of interest. The German interviewers are a little more direct with their questions but I was still surprised by the question as to whether Kate and I may be involved in Madeleine’s abduction! Hopefully our answers removed any doubt on that score and that our sole focus in all of the family campaigning is to get Madeleine back. After the media we met with a couple of politicians in private. Firstly, we saw the deputy justice minister for Germany who gave us reassurances regarding the investigation. Following this we met the Mayor of Berlin who is a very powerful and charismatic politician. He asked us what he could do for us and following this meeting asked German tourists who were in the Algarve around the time of Madeleine’s abduction to come forward. He is very popular and such public backing should help our appeal. We had to delay our onward flight to Amsterdam because of some information received by the police, which we needed to be consulted on. We diverted to the embassy in Berlin but it turned out to be nothing of interest. We unfortunately had to miss 2 TV programmes as we arrived in Amsterdam 3 hours late, very tired and emotionally drained. We did manage to catch up with a few friends briefly who we know from the year we lived in Amsterdam. They have been actively campaigning here on our behalf with poster distribution, contacting media and liasing with companies to get advertising space for large posters of Madeleine.

Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS: Kate and Gerry McCann, parents of missing 4-year-old British girl Madeleine McCann show a picture of their daughter at a press conference 07 June 2007 in Amsterdam. The parents of Madeleine McCann, the British girl who vanished in Portugal last month, appealed to Dutch tourists for information on their daughter.
Thursday June 7

• A mystery phone call from a man claiming to know Madeleine's whereabouts is received.

The caller provides such detail that Kate and Gerry McCann temporarily put their European search for their daughter on hold in case they need to act. The call is later traced to a mobile phone registered in Argentina.

Kazlux meeting with Goncalo Amaral
This from the Dutch blogger Ko van Dijk, who gave me permission to quote him on this (he wrote about it in an article with the title 'Bloed in de kofferbak' = 'Blood in the carboot' on his weblog http://www.kovandijkvertelt.nl):
It is about the letter to De Telegraaf. Ko said the letter was delivered to De Telegraaf on JUNE SEVENTH!
He is certain as he knows both the journalists who went to Portugal very well.
Therefore he also knows that De Telegraaf called the McCanns about it on that same day (so june 7th).

Ko thinks this is what spooked them into moving the body.

7th June...

DIARY
THURSDAY, JUNE 7:
The Press conference went well. People are always asking how we are managing to cope, how we can manage to run a campaign, as if we are strange because we are able to appear calm and controlled and aren't going under all the time. They know so little. Nobody should judge or criticise because, unless they have already been in this situation, they have NO IDEA how they would be and certainly NO IDEA how painful it is. NO IDEA AT ALL. I love you so much Madeleine xxxx

I can't bear this. I can't bear being without Madeleine. It's like torture—a slow, painful death. I hope her suffering, if she is suffering, is much less. Please God.

Day 35

T
he press conference, meetings and appeal on TV today in Amsterdam all seemed to go well. I doubt there are many people left in Europe who do not know of Madeleine’s disappearance and hopefully everyone who has information will have come forward to the police. Today was particularly difficult for Kate and I because of the year we spent in Amsterdam with Madeleine. We have many friend s still there and could never have imagined coming back without her in such dreadful circumstances. Afterwards we caught with a friend of mine who was attending a medical conference in Amsterdam and a friend who helps run a playgroup that we attended We arrived back in Portugal and managed to spend some time with Sean and Amelie. We then drove to the concert in Lagos in aid of Madeleine, which is the first large public event in Portugal that I know of supporting the campaign. It was interesting mix of jazz, blues, orchestra and rap! We were presented with a painting with green and yellow hands from a class of schoolkids- hands of hope. There was a short speech and Kate thanked tke local

community for their support. The amount of media coverage Madeleine’s disappearance has received is phenomenal. After Morocco we will have to take stock and decide on our best strategy. I am not convinced going to other European countries and holding meetings similar to Berlin and Amsterdam will help.

on 7th the records recommence on the antenna "Faro Airport" at 17:12:59.

The absence of record was due, according to the media, to the presence of McCann in Berlin during that interval in the records.

Returning to Faro, in addition to [the above] entry, there are three more records on that antenna at 17:13:51, 17:13:59 and 17:15:01. Then follows: "Montenegro" at 17:17:56; "S.ta Barbara de Nexe" at 17:25:59, 17:26:15 and 17:26:20; "Quartos" at 17:29:25 and 17:29:46; "Pedra de Agua" at 17:31:59 and 17:37:10; "No Boliqueime" at 17:41:36; "Alcantarilha" at 17:51:09; "Ladeira do Vau" at 17:57:04; "Monte Alto IC4" at 18:04:40; "Bensafrim Centre" at 18:07:09; "Lagos" at 18:08:23 and 18:13:38; then entering the sphere of influence of the antennae of Praia da Luz at 18:25:11.

Still on this day [7th],
it activates the antenna "Lagos Centre" at 20:13:22, 20:38:07, 20:39:13, 20:39:33, 20:51:04, 21:14:38, 21:27:24, only returning to his temporary residence at 00:05:50am on 8th.

Quieter day today. This was a good chance to catch up with campaign e-mails and phone calls after the trips to Berlin and Amsterdam. At lunchtime we went to the release of 1000 yellow balloons at the beach carrying cards with Madeleine’s picture on it and information in 5 different languages including arabic. There were similar launches in Manchester and Madrid. The event was organsied by the Sun who, like almost all of the media, have been incredibly supportive. I told Nick, the Sun journalist, that we are happy to support all strategies which increase the chances of finding Madeleine. Later in the afternoon we went down to the beach and had dinner in one of the restaurants which Sean and Amelie really enjoyed. Sean, in particular has acquired a taste for sea-bass! Kate and I did a short interview for BBC East Midlands to thank everyone for their support and it is likely that this will be shown around most of the regions, certainly Northwest and BBC Scotland. Kate and most of the family headed down to the church for the regular Friday night vigil but I was just too shattered. Tommorrow will largely be a family day although I am not sure what we will be doing yet.

Day 37 - 11/06/2007

Kate and I had a slightly busier day on the media front than expected. We did a short press interview for the Irish Sunday papers, mainly to thank the Irish for their fantastic level of support. We followed that with one for the British Sundays which is likely to be the last one we do for a while. We talked about our pain of not having having Madeleine for such a long time and for our need to grieve, which occurs mainly in private. We also talked about how after Morocco we will have to spend some time reflecting both emotionally, and also how best the campaign can be taken forward. What we want to ensure is that the campaign has a psoitive effect on finding Madeleine.

After this we headed down to Sagres which is the very most southwestern tip of Portugal. There is a very nice beach and we had lunch with the family.

After returning from the beach we did the Irish version of Crimewatch-‘Crimecall’. There are a lot of Irish tourists in and around Praia da Luz and although the awareness of Madeleine’s disappearance in Ireland is extremely high, we want to ensure that everyone is aware of the appeal and we want the Irish public to come forward with photographs of people who they do not know who were in and around Praia da Luz in the 2 weeks leading up to the 3rd May. The address to upload photographs is: to www.madeleine.ceopupload.com . We have also asked for people to contact their local police if they have seen a man matching the description of the suspect carrying a child seen around the time of Madeleine’s abduction. He is 30-40 years, 1.70-1.80m (5’7?-11?), caucasian and was wearing a dark jacket, beige or mustard coloured trousers with dark shoes. No major news on the investigation front- we still believe it is just a single phone call away.

NOTE: comment below regarding SEA BASS comment from June 8th Gerry's  blog

From that entry until 11:24:48 on 9th, all registrations were made on the antennae of Praia da Luz. The next record was made at 14:00:13 on the repeater "Sagres". At 16:28:56 and 16:29:22 it activates the antenna "Budens"; then it returns to the antenna "Praia da Luz" at 16:32:14.

Kate also went to Sagres at this time.

From that time until 16:35:47 on 10th, all activations occurred in the village from where Madeleine disappeared. After that time it appears, from the antennae activated, that there occurred a movement to Lisbon, specifically to the airport. The following antennae were activated: "Lagos" (16:41:35); "Lagoa" (16:59:10); "S. Bartolomeu de Messines" (17:18:24); "Almargem A2" (17:19:12); "Cerro Gordo A2" (17:33:10); "Panoias" (17:39:42, 17:41:13 and 17:42:06); "Grandola South" (18:00:09); "Vasco da Gama Bridge" (19:01:49); "Airport Luggage" (19:50:01 and 20:03:34) and "Airport (Terminal) Indoor" (20:48:10 and 20:49:17).

We attended mass this morning and the Bishop had sent a very nice message that he and everyone else was praying for Madeleine. He also said that our attitude in this time of adversity was an example for others. Contrary to some of the headlines in the Sunday papers the campaign to find Madeleine will not ease up. Kate’s and my role will be different after Morocco compared to the last 3 weeks. As I said earlier we will reflect on the investigation, what the campaign has achieved and where we will be best directed. We will be less evident in the media, at least for a few days, unless there is a breakthrough in the investigation. First of all we have Morocco. We drove up to Lisbon late this afternoon to catch a flight to Casablanca where embassy officials will meet us. We were surprised to learn that a 20 seat propeller plane was sent instead of the larger aircraft. Luckily Kate, Clarence and I got squeezed on although we were certainly rather apprehensive about flying on such an aircraft- it reminded us of some of the internal flights we took in New Zealand in the mid 90’s. The meeting in Rabat will follow a similar itinerary as to the European visits. We will meet with the ambassador and his staff, two children’s charities, the interior minister and possibly the chief of police. We will do two interviews for the main TV stations and the press conference will be last. I am sure we will be asked about the Marrakech siting which has been extensively reported in the press. I should be able to get some more details of this from ITV, who interviewed the witness, and hopefully the justice minister to find out what enquiries were made by the local police

If you Google "sea bass and cadaver odour" up come lots of scientific papers, many of which contain the name W M BASS in their references. This is how I found out about his book Death's Acre.

As Gerry had a number of forensic books as his bedtime reading it is not inconceivable that he knew all about WM Bass and his work at the Body Farm, including all about cadaver odour.

If the blog entry was a code for the above then I think it was possibly to let someone know the reason for the TRIP they were on that day.

Day 36 - 08/06/2007 - Friday

Rabat, MOROCCO: The parents of Madeleine McCann, Kate (R) and Gerry (C), the four-year-old British girl who vanished in Portugal more than a month ago, meet with Moroccan Interior Minister Chakib Benmoussa 11 June 2007 in Rabat. The couple have launched a campaign to raise public awareness of the case in the hope that people will come forward with information that could help police find their daughter. The trip to Morocco follows testimony by 45-year-old Norwegian Mari Olli that she had seen Maddie in a petrol station south of Marrakesh while on holiday, six days after the disappearance. Woman (2nd L) is unidentified.

Day 38 -12/06/2007
We spent the day in Rabat meeting 3 child welfare groups, the minister for interior and the chief of police. We had little knowledge of Morocco before coming here and have learned what a family orientated and child loving society it is. Everyone has been incredibly sympathetic and said they will do everything to help us find Madeleine. As well as the meetings there was a very touching experience outside the National Observatory for Chidren's Rights. As we pulled up in the car there were about 150 children waving posters of Madeleine with the words above and below a picture of her:

'All Moroccan Children Are With You Madeleine- Madeleine: Back Home'. They were singing and cheering Madeleine's name and shouting 'coeur', Heart. This whole experience was uplifting and enlightening at the same time in that we had no concept that so many children in Morocco would know of Madeleine and also be internet- friendly. It is just as likely that a child will spot Madeleine and alert a responsible adult. The whole world really has changed and is a lot smaller in this computer age. If Madeleine is in Morocco we have no doubt that she will be found.

We did a couple of interviews for ITV and Sky and followed up our Newspaper interviews focussing on a change in the phase of the campaign. We confirmed that there will be a period of reflection before we decide on what is the best role for Kate and I. The campaign and the search for Madeleine will continue and with everyone's help we will find her. So please stay with us.

On 12th the newspapers Jornal de Notcias, Publico, Correio da Manha and 24Horas reported the movement of McCann to Morocco, where they were received by a member of the government of that country.

On returning to Portugal the first record is shown on the antenna "Montijo Centre" at 16:31:36 followed by several antennae to the town where they were "located": "Pinhal Novo" (16:38:56); "Palmela_II" (16:42:14); "Palma A2" (16:54:36); "Alcacer A2" (17:02:13); "Solteiras A2" (17:50:03 and 17:50:10); "?ueda A2" (17:52:10); "Alcantarilha" (18:11:36); "Sobral IC4" (18:12:29); "Monte Alto IC4" (18:23:36); and "Praia da Luz" (18:47:32).

DAY GERRY USED

Day 39 -12/06/2007
We finished off our trip to Morocco with a private visit to the minister for religious affairs this morning. He is an academic, senior cleric and adviser to the King of Morocco. We explained to him that although we are Roman Catholic we have received messages of support and prayers from all religious groups. Leicester, where we live, is extremely diverse culturally with a large proportion of Muslims and there were prayers for Madeline throughout Leicester on Sunday. We asked the minister if prayers could be said for Madeleine and other missing children in Morocco. He told us that people were praying for her and again emphasised that if Madeleine is in Morocco they would find her. En route to the airport a lorry had overturned blocking the exit from the motorway. The Moroccan people dealt with this in a very calm and relaxed manner, which we have found is a very engaging aspect of their character. Arriving back in Praia da Luz it was great to see Sean and Amelie. I think they were happy to see us although have been very well looked after as usual. We have no more trips planned for the immediate future and will spend the next few days taking stock. Tonight we have also gone to the church for prayers, as it is now 40 days and nights since Madeleine was abducted. No child or parent should have to endure his experience and we prayed that she would be found safe and well.

Wednesday June 13

• An anonymous letter sent to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claims Madeleine's body is buried in deserted scrubland only nine miles from where she was abducted

Kazlux meeting with Goncalo Amaral....

13th June...
First activation at 10:00
Leave PdL around 10:25 for a meeting with the PJ in the Portimao area.
They arrive shortly after 11am
They then arrive back in Luz at 14:22
Last ping that night came at 00:19
13/6 Trip to Portimao. Leave Luz around 10.30, ping at Odiaxere at 10:38 the a gap followed by Portimao activations from 12:25 until 14:00. Back in Luz mast area by 14:15

Met with Portuguese and British police today to get an update on the investigation. We were reaasured that information continues to come in, and we continue to pray for a breakthrough.

We were extremely disappointed in the publication of the anonymous letter in The Telegraaf (Netherlands) claiming to know where Madeleine is buried. Although all information will be taken seriously, we were very upset that the credibility of this letter had not been examined and, more importantly, published before the Portuguese police had an opportunity to investigate the claim, and search the area if appropriate without massive media attention. We feel strongly that this was an irresponsible piece of journalism and even if it were true is insensitive and cruel.

One can imagine how upsetting it is for Kate and I to hear of such claims
through the media and if every piece of information was published like this there would be nothing else in the newspapers.

After the return, [the phone] only came out of Praia da Luz at 10:29:24 on 13th, the time at which it activated the antenna "Lagos" moving up to Portimao. For that round trip to Praia da Luz there exist the following records: "Lagos" (10:31:00, 10:32:42 and 10:38:10); "Monte Alto IC4" (10:38:38); "Portimao Centre" (11:07:09 and 12:13:23); "Ferragudo" 12:14:23 and 12:16:26); "Est?bar" (12:17:08); "Ferragudo" (12:24:03); "Portimao Centre" (12:28:05); "Ferragudo" (12:30:21, 12:30:58, 12:34:04 and 12:41:01); "Parchal" (12:44:18); "Ferragudo" 12:52:41, 12:53:29 and 13:02:20); "Portimao Centre" (13:03:40); "Ferragudo" (13:04:25, 13:05:40, 13:06:36, 13:07:05, 13:08:37, 13:09:05, 13:09:18, 13:09:24, 13:11:20, 13:16:10, 13:24:26 and 13:47:13); "Portimao II" (13:55:44); "Arge IC4" (14:02:18); and "Praia da Luz Centre" (14:22:21).

Six weeks since Madeleine disappeared. We believe Madeleine is alive and I am glad to say that following yesterday's letter in the Telegraaf (Netherlands) there has been no evidence that Madeliene is in the area indicated although there will be further searches tomorrow.
Kate and I picked up a friend from Faro airport who has been

instrumental in helping with the campaign. He has been fantastic, producing the DVD of Madeleine to ‘Don’t you forget about me’

which has been shown at many sporting events and concerts as well as producing the look for maddie logo and various posters.

We spent most of the day updating each other and discussing future campaign ideas. We are getting closer to appointing a campaign manager who will handle media liaison and coordinating events to keep Madeleine’s disappearance highly visible

The following day, 14th, the mobile phone of Gerald McCann has its next record on the antenna "Lagos" at 08:17:08, the city where this witness will have passed on his way to the airport in Faro, seeing that at 8:20:31 and 8:21:15 it having activated the antenna called "Lagos Norte" and subsequently activating the antennae: "Lagos Centre" at 08:21:15; "Bensafrim Centre" at 08:24:05; "Praia da Luz" at 8:27:47; "Arge IC 4" at 8:30:49; "Sobral IC4" at 8:40:46; "Loul?Centre" at 8:58:38 and 8:58:44, "Patac?" at 9:11:07; "Faro Airport" at 9:29:21; "Arge IC4" at 10:34:00; "Lagos" at 10:50:07 and 10:50:13; and "Praia da Luz Centre" at 11:09:17.

Gerald, together with Kate, will have gone to the airport to meet or to bid farewell to someone, given that the records point to their remaining in Portugal

Last activation of the day at 20:15

The good news today is that the search in response to the letter in the Telegraaf did not find evidence of Madeleine. We still belive that

Madeleine is alive. We have made some real progress deciding on campaign strategy. There is a huge amount of goodwill from people who want to help us find Madeleine and we have some concrete offers of support and are trying to finalise details before releasing them.Tomorrow will be a family day.

After the return to Praia da Luz, at that hour, the phone of Gerald only came to produce one record outside the antennae that serve the village Praia da Luz on 15th at 9:28:14 when an activation occurs on antenna "Lagos ".

Although the phone records of Kate did not activate any antenna outside Luz, on this day it shows a gap in [the time of the records] around that time [from 9:07 to 9:28]
that makes it possible that she had gone with her husband to Lagos.

[His]
records return to the village at 9:48:23.

16th... According to the blog and available media information The MCanns went to Faro airport to drop off Jon Corner and collect more friends/family (which may or may not be the same trip) as well as a visit to Lagos Zoo.
Lagos Zoo isn't actually in Lagos. It's at Barao de Sao Joao, which is around 7 miles to the NW of Lagos and 4 miles North of Luz. It's actually closer to Luz than Lagos.
The first ping of the day comes at 08:54 at Faro Airport. Nothing before at Luz or elsewhere, meaning that he either switched his phone off (anytime since 20:15 the previous evening) or there was no activity. Going by previous days analysis, this type of behaviour is extremely unusual.
Last ping at the airport comes at 09:03
Next ping in Almancil (6 miles to the West of Faro - on way back) at 10:10
Then a ping at 10:21 in North Boliqueime (5 miles North East of Albufeira)
{ Then a 2 hour 15 minute gap }
Next ping back in Luz at 12:36
Next ping at 12:38 in Luz Centro
Next ping at 12:58 in Almadena (2 miles NW of Luz)
{ Then a 2 hour 16 minute gap } - It was around this time they were at the Zoo, according to reports, which means his phone was either switched off or there was no activity during this period. Almadena ping may be consistent with a trip from Luz to Barao de Sao Joao (where the Zoo is located).
Then two pings at Bensafrim Centro (4 miles North of Luz and 2 miles NE of the Zoo) at 15:14 and 15:30
{ Then a 1 hour 43 minute gap } - What happened here?
Next ping in Luz Centro at 17:13, then another ping a minute later. Then a gap until 18:39. Next ping at 19:19 followed by another gap until a ping at 20:44
Consecutive Ping List for today;
08:54 Faro Airport (1st activation of the day)
08:58 Faro Airport
09:00 Faro Airport
09:03 Faro Airport
10:10 Almansil
10:21 No Boliqueime

16/6 Left Luz just after 7am and headed to Faro airport. First activity at the airport comes at 08:23, last at 09:37. Back in Luz just after 11am.
Possible trip to the West of Luz, consecutive activations as follows;

Kate and I dropped Jon at the airport this morning and picked up some more friends/family who have come out to see us, but

particularly the twins. They were certainly happy to see our visitors! After lunch we headed off to the local zoo. Relatively quiet on the campaign front today as it is a family day. Tomorrow we will announce one or two planned events to keep Madeleines disappearnace high profile.

The records on 16th begin at 8:54.06 on the repeater "Faro Airport" where [the phone] stays also registering at 8:58:48, 9:00:43 and 9:03:49. Those [records] are followed by the antennae "Almansil" at 10:10:54, "No Boliqueime" at 10:21:25, and "Praia da Luz" at 12:36:14.

Once again on this trip to the airport Gerald came in the company of his wife.

On this day Gerald's mobile phone, after returning to Praia da Luz, activates two antennae outside this town: "Almadena" at 12:58:44, and "Bensafrim Centre" at 15:14:59 and 15:30:36.

These activations correspond to [two] distinct [separate] exits. In the first, Kate will have accompanied him because [her phone] also activates the same antenna [Almadena], returning to Luz. In the second, Kate's phone shows no records for that area [Bensafrim], however there is a large interval of time between [her phone] records, which also allows one to say that she had gone with Gerald.

• Portuguese police say Madeleine's friends and family may have unwittingly destroyed vital evidence in the first few hours after her abduction, during their search for her.

Chief Inspector Olegario Sousa says their well-meaning actions could prove "fatal" for the investigation

17th June... Only thing to mention is a gap between a 15:45 ping at the Luz Central mast and a 20:57 ping at the Luz mast. A gap of 5 hours and 12 minutes  17/6 Gaps : 13:24 - 15:55 & 18:48 - 21:25 17th - overlaps in mobile silences between K & G... 18:48 - 21:25

SUNDAY, JUNE 17: Cherie Blair (then the Premier's wife) phoned to find out how we were.

We talked about everything in general, including about them leaving Number 10. She agreed as well to make a 20-second video clip for our broadcast on YouTube about Madeleine and children who have disappeared.

I also had the chance to speak to Tony (then Prime Minister) who told me that we weren't to hesitate to ask him if there was something he could do to help.

On Sky News tonight they suddenly said the Portuguese police had stated that the crime scene had been contaminated—because of us—and that fundamental evidence had been lost. How dare they insinuate that our daughter's life could be put in danger because of us. Very angry. Very upset.

I want to speak to someone now, but it's too late.

I changed my mind and I sent a text message to Ricardo (Portuguese police family liaison officer). I don't know if was a sensible idea but I feel really annoyed.

My darling little Madeleine, you know that we wouldn't do anything to put you in danger.

I love you very much and I am in agony right now.

I only have to hope that God helps us all now and that he brings you back to us, safe and sound, very soon.

I need you to come back Madeleine. You are the best thing in my life that has ever happened to me. XXXXX

I ended up feeling very upset. Everything overflowed. Terrified that we might not get Madeleine back. I simply cannot face that. Tears, despair, rage, helplessness. I spoke to Gerry, recited prayers. Please God, bring her back XX

I fell asleep after 1am.

Kate and I managed an early morning run before church.

The first event of our longer term campaign will be on Friday 22nd June- this will mark the 50th day Madeleine will be missing. We will be launching green and yellow balloons from at least 50 centres worldwide to mark the fact that we are still searching as are other parents of missing children. Countries that are partcipating so far

are Argentina, El Salvador, USA, Canada, Ireland, UK,
The Netherlands, Germany, Portugal (Kate and I in Praia da Luz), Spain, South Africa, Kenya, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. . Any other countries that wish to partcipate can download information from the website.

18th June... Only thing to mention about today is the large number of activations/pings, suggesting that the phone was used extensively throughout the day. Although they were all in Luz, with the exception of one in Lagos, it was a record number to date, extending over two pages.  18/6 Activity to the West of Luz with plenty of travel time. Consecutive;
14:57 Luz Central 2
1.5 hour gap
16:33 Cabanas Velhas M1 (just West of Burgau)
1.5 hour gap
17:55 Burgau 2 [x2]
17:59 Burgau 1
18:08 Luz Central 2
2 Hour Gap
20:07 Luz Central 2
18th - Kate's Burgau pings on the 18th June have no matches for Gerry. He was only pinging Luz (in huge numbers) that day
Already only on 18th at 19:48:40 a record exists outside the antennae of Luz, on the antenna of "Lagos". The records "return" to the village where he was living at 20:30:20.

DIARYMONDAY, JUNE 18: I spent a few lovely hours with Sean and Amelie building a sandcastle with a moat, getting big hugs from Sean, ice creams.

Shower, lovely meal and a little playtime with the kids.

(But as night closes in Kate's anguish returns.)

I can't stand living like this. It's so painful and distressing. Dear Lord, PLEASE answer our prayers. PLEASE send Madeleine back to us. PLEASE.

I love you so, so much Madeleine, more than anything XXXXX.

Kate and I got the respone we wanted after speaking to the Portuguese ploice today. We are assured that no criticism of our actions on the night Madeline

disappeared was intended.
There has been a good response to our planned balloon release for Madeleine and other missing children on Friday and we are confident that over 50 countries

will be represented.
The twins have really enjoyed seeing family who have been visiting us for the last 3 days- it has passed very quickly. Hopefully the next time we see them it will be with Madeleine.

Plea For Missing Girl Holiday Snaps Sky News (article no longer available online) Updated: 13:27, Tuesday June 19, 2007 Madeleine McCann's parents will appeal to Irish tourists to check holiday snaps for clues - while the flat their child was abducted from reportedly sold for half price. Madeleine's parents Kate McCann, 38, and Gerry, 39, will appear on television to ask anyone who took a trip to Portugal in early May to send photos to British investigators. A spokesman for Irish broadcaster RTE said: "They wanted to appeal to any Irish person who may have been in the Praia Da Luz area and ask them specifically ... to look at the backgrounds." It is now around six weeks since the Leicestershire girl vanished from the Algarve holiday apartment she was sharing with her parents and two younger siblings. Recent Irish visitors to the Portuguese holiday resort are being asked to upload their photos to the UK's Child Exploitation website -http://www.ceopupload.com/. Mrs McCann said: "There has been so much support from Ireland. We're overwhelmed. We'd reckon half the letters we have are from the Irish." The two-bedroom apartment the family rented in Praia da Luz went on the market for £75,000 last week. A British couple offered the asking price within days and they have already completed the deal, according to Portuguese newspapers. The Sun said the market rate for similar properties was £150,000.

Kate's diary, 19 June 2007 - Day 47
TUESDAY, JUNE 19: Last night I didn't manage to get to sleep until around 1am because I was so upset again. It's so painful to be without Madeleine and I can't stand to think that it could be like this forever. This simply cannot happen.

Good night, good night Madeleine, I'm longing to read you a bedtime story again. I love you my little darling X

19 June 2007 Gerry takes an early-morning flight from Faro, Portugal, to Gatwick, London, landing shortly before midday. The flying visit is for a series of meetings, one of which is to appoint a campaign manager - Justine McGuinness. On the plane to London, a man in his 80's - who has never been named - becomes ill midway through the flight. Reports on the severity of the illness range from the man simply fainting and Gerry offering assistance to the man being administered oxygen and Gerry saving his life. Within minutes/an hour/hours of landing Gerry has his wallet stolen at an ATM at Waterloo station/cash machine near the Foreign Office in Whitehall. According to Philomena McCann, Gerry's sister, "He bent down to put something in his rucksack and some dirty animal had the wallet out of his back pocket." It is reported to have contained £100 cash, credit cards and two/three "irreplaceable" photographs of Madeleine that have never been seen in public and, of which, there are no copies. Reports suggest that these were Gerry's favourite pictures and that one showed Madeleine aged 15 months, while another was taken at a church shortly before her disappearance. Some reports have suggested that the pictures included the twins and it's possible the picture taken in church may have been taken when the McCanns attended the christening of one of Jon Corner's children, at the end of March 2007 (see report at bottom of this page). Gerry has to cancel all his credit cards, thus delaying him and causing the meetings to run on late into the evening. However, he does get to all his meetings, where he reports in his blog that there were 'very good discussions regarding sustaining the search for Madeleine long term'. The Evening Standard reported that London police had said they 'had no record of the theft being reported to officers'. In addition, Clarence Mitchell confirmed that Gerry had attended a meeting at London's foreign office, on Tuesday, but 'could not immediately confirm details of the theft'.

19th June... First ping of the day comes at 08:20 in Faro Airport. Nothing anywhere before this. Last ping at Faro Airport comes at 09:01 before Gerry takes off for a trip to the UK  19/6 Trip to Albufeira
Left Luz just after 3pm, back in Luz at 19:10
19th - Only Gerry's mobile tarvels to Faro airport in the morning, for a flight to the UK. Last ping from Gerry at 09:01 , However, Kate's mobile takes a trip to Albufeira, as far as I can tell, late afternoon/early evening.

London police said they had no record of the theft being reported to officers. Clarence Mitchell, a spokesman for the family, said McCann had attended a meeting at London's foreign office on Tuesday, but could not immediately confirm details of the theft.

After this exit and return to Luz the first registration on 19th at 8:20:52 was made outside those antennae, specifically on the antenna "Faro Airport".

The records of 19th and 20th, the first of which on the first day [19th] occur only on the antenna "Faro Airport" (a total of 13 times),

Flew in to London to for a series of meetings. Helped a passenger on the flight who collapsed. He was ill enough to require a full assessment on arrival and went off to hospital in an ambulance.

Unfortunately shortly after arriving in London I had my wallet stolen which meant I was running late. I did manage to get to all my meetings which ran late into the evening. We had very good discussions regarding sustaining the search for Madeleine long term. The role for Kate and I in the campaign will not be nearly be so

public. We have to balance any campaigning in the search for Madeleine with protecting Sean and Amelie and making sure their privacy is protected.
We are exploring the use of new media and using local advertising, particularly in Europe.

There will of course be event driven media

exposure such as the balloon launch on Friday 22nd. There are several other very good ideas being developed and a few large companies are willing to help us.

Another "Ludicrous" Theory in the Disappearance of Madeleine McCann The Daily Profiler

Criminal Profiler Pat BrownMonday, October 8, 2007
IF the McCanns were involved and IF Maddy's body was brought home, when this would have happened is another question. Unfortunately, only those inside the organization would (we hope) know the truth about the McCann's movements. For example, Gerry McCann returned to England on June 19, just four days after an exhaustive search for Madeleine was called off. This search was in an arid, desolate area (the kind of climate which might encourage the mummification of a body) near a town called Odiaxere. A letter from an unknown sender had stated she could be found there in a shallow grave. Four days later, Gerry is on a plane home. I don't know if he took any luggage with him, anything more than a rucksack (which I don't know the size of). He only stayed for the day, purportedly to attend some meetings. He claims he had his wallet stolen while getting money from an ATM and later that evening, the wallet was mailed back to him. A rather peculiar story that I wonder might not be a cover for the reason he was late to his meetings; he ostensibly spent the time calling credit card companies to cancel his credit cards. If I were the police investigator, I would follow up this lead. I would want to know what luggage Gerry took with him to England. I would try to see if there was any proof to the wallet theft story. I would find out if he had any "alone" time on the trip. I would find out if he made those phone calls to the credit card companies and if he really got money from an ATM. I would find out exactly where he was that day through any evidence of his movements (phone call tracking, receipts, witnesses, etc.). I would want to know if anyone met him, especially anyone who he could have transferred a package from one suitcase to another.

Pickpocket snatches father's photos of missing Madeleine Timesonline David BrownJune 21, 2007

Mr McCann's wallet was snatched at a cash machine during a 24-hour trip to Britain. Madeleine's grandmother, Susan Healey, said that irreplaceable pictures of the missing four-year-old, who was abducted in Portugal 49 days ago, were in the wallet.
"There can't be many people who don't recognise Kate and Gerry now — shame on the thieves for doing it," she said. "Hopefully, when they see the photos of Madeleine in the wallet, they will recognise what they have done. In the context of losing Madeleine, a stolen wallet means nothing. But it is just another problem Gerry can do without." One picture reportedly showed Madeleine aged 15 months, while another was taken recently at a church.

Wed June 2020 June 2007 Gerry has another series of meetings, this time in Leicester and returns to Portugal in the 'evening', where he is met at the airport by Kate. The entry in Kate's diary seems to imply that she collected Gerry from the airport alone. However, she was not a named driver of the Renault Scenic hire car so presumably somebody else drove, or she drove without being covered. Sandy Cameron and Michael Wright were the other named drivers, beside Gerry McCann. She recounts how, just before they reached the apartment, they came across a 'drunk' laying in the middle of the street. She jokes that 'we've all been there!' She claims the man recognises them and Gerry then walks the man back to his apartment.

Kate's diary, 20 June 2007 - Day 48
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20:
There is still no sign of Madeleine. I didn't feel like it so I decided not to go running.

Went to pick up Gerry from the airport. It was so good to see him. Just before we reached the apartment we saw a man lying in the middle of the street, so we stopped the car and got out. It was no surprise to see that he was drunk (we've all been there!) but he recognised Gerry and me immediately. Gerry walked him round to his apartment.

Another busy day of meetings this time in Leicester. No mishaps thankfully. The main meeting was that of Maddeleines fund where we discussed implementing a strategy to maintain our campaign to find Madeleine. It was agreed in principle to appoint a family spokesperson who will act, not just for Kate and I, but also on behalf of the extended family who have been liasing with the media. This appointment will take a lot of strain off family members who have been putting in such massive efforts to help find Madeleine.

We are delighted with the response to the 50th day balloon launch

which will truly be a global event. There will be a few variations to the release of balloons however. In Ventura, Southern California, 50 white doves will be released and in

Afghanistan kite racing, an activity banned under the Taliban, will be the order of the day.  Arrived back in Praia da Luz this evening and it was great to see Kate and the Kids, even though I was only away for a day and a half.

the first five records of the second day occur on the same antenna at 20:56:07, 20:56:13, 20::56:19, 20:56:25 and 20:56:59, indicate the absence of Gerald from our country for about 35 hours.

Thursday June 21

• The first of a series of reported sightings of a girl resembling Madeleine is reported in Malta. The initial reports spark a flurry of interest in the island with dozens of possible sightings reported in subsequent days and weeks

Back in Luz by 13:49
  21/6 Activations In Portimao between 10:59 & 13:16
Back in Luz at 14:37
Then pinging Lagos between 16:34 & 17:29

According to what was reported in the press on 21st, he travelled to the United Kingdom, alone, to resolve issues inherent in the fund created to find Madeleine.

After the last activation of the antenna that serves Faro airport, the records return to Praia da Luz at 22:30:07. During the trip he was under the influence [came within range] of the antennae called "Boliqueime" at 21:41:06; [and] at 21:47:49 he was in the area of the antenna "Guia".

From that time up to 9:51:37 on 21st records exist only on the antennae of Luz.

This activation record is followed by: "Lagos" - 10:33:40; "Portimao Centre" - 10:54:37; "Ferragudo" - 11:31:42 and 12:01:17; "Lagos" again - 13:30:02; and "Praia da Luz Centre" - 13:49:29.

On this occasion occurred another movement of the McCann couple to Portimao, possibly, for
[one of]
the weekly meetings they had with some senior officials of the police.

DIARY
THURSDAY, JUNE 21:
I went to the church around 9.20pm to pray a bit by myself, in peace. I got a bit annoyed, I don't understand why God doesn't answer my prayers. I think I need a sign of some sort. I miss her so much. It is so painful and I don't feel my life is complete and I won't ever feel it is complete, if she doesn't come home. Gerry came down later on to be with me.

Apart from a glass of wine, chocolate and this diary, there's nothing much else to tell.

I LOVE YOU MADELEINE. GOOD NIGHT GOOD NIGHT X X X.

Met with the Portuguese police today for an update. Their committemnt to find Madeleine matches ours and we all hope for that vital breakthrough every day.

We have literally received thousands of letters, cards and messages of support here in Portugal which have helped give us strength during this terrible time. Yesterday we received a particularly touching gift which is entitled Madeleines Book of Hope made up with comments from children of all ages from 3 different schools including a pre-school. The messages in different coloured pages with green and yellow ribbons had both the power to us cry and laugh!

The response to the balloon launch to mark 50 days that Madeleine has been missing has been incredible. There are close to 300 centres, and countries all over the world, participating. There has been a lot of local media interest but remember to take digital photographs and videos if possible which will be able to be uploaded to the website so we can display them. The message of Madeleines disappearance will reach many more people tomorrow.

A pleasing aspect of the launch will be the highlighting of other missing or abducted children, many of whom will have recieved little public attention. I know that 7 year old Yeremi Vargas will be

remembered in Madrid and his family will be releasing balloons from Gran Canaria where he disappeared in March of this year.

Our campaign to find Madeleine will be associated with other child welfare issues in the future. We are very keen to see more debate

on issues that we and other families in similar situations have to face.

Child abuse is a taboo subject still in many countries and we must encourage responsible debate around how child abuse can be prevented.

LEICESTER, UNITED KINGDOM - JUNE 22: Friends and members of the McCann family release balloons in Bradgate Park on June 22, 2007 in Leicester, England. Balloons are being freed in 50 countries to mark the 50th day since Madeleine McCann went missing and to maintain awareness of the campaign to find her

.
On 22nd, the first record outside of Praia da Luz, also the first record of the day, is on antenna "Boliqueime" at 9:18:22, followed by the records: "Patacao" (9:33:07); "Montenegro" (9:39:16); "Faro Airport" (9:43:46, 9:45:47, 9:45:59, 9:49:29 and 9:53:05) ; "Bensafrim Centre" (10:42:05); "Lagos" (10:46:18) and "Praia da Luz Centre" (11:19:24). It is suggested that this "window" points to the fact of Gerald having gone to the airport to receive or to bid farewell to some relative or friend.

FRIDAY, JUNE 22: I miss Madeleine loads and that's a real understatement. Sometimes I think I must have done something so bad. (Then Kate recalls the IVF treatment she needed to get pregnant) It was so difficult and painful 'trying' to have Madeleine and now this!!!

Why??? Bad luck??? A sick joke??? And then I think I don't want to think about me—I'm an adult, but Madeleine, dear, sweet, vulnerable, beautiful Madeleine... and I just feel like screaming. WHY?

Dear Lord, I continue to ask, continue to hope, continue to try to have faith in You. Please help us. Put an end to this nightmare. Please help Madeleine. PLEASE LORD.

Unbearable

Madeleine, I love you with all my heart. You are part of my being and I will never feel whole without you. I hope and pray for the day, hopefully soon, when we will be reunited and together again FOREVER. I miss you so much. I need you. I love you. XXXXXXXXXXX

We never thought it would happen: 50 days without Madeleine. Solidarity the world over has been expressed today with the launch of balloons in every continent to remember Madeleine and other missing children. The event in Praia da Luz had considerable media interest as did many other releases the world over. Sean and Amelie released their balloons shortly after kate and I let go our 50 and we were pleased the media respected our wish for the twins not to be photographed any longer. Please send digital images and video of your local event to images@bringmadeleinehome.com

We were not planning to say anything at the launch but there was such a large turnout from Portuguese TV who we have not spoken

to for some time that we decided to answer their questions. The beauty of the launch was the local and international dimension with media coverage spreading Madeleines image far and wide.

We have seen the video of the Ullapool (home of the website and my sister Phil) launch, Glasgow and extensive pictures from

Amsterdam. We very much look forward to seeing pictures from all the other venues. One of these balloons may just be found by someone who recognises Madeleine and alerts the authorities.

22nd June... First mobile activation of the day comes at 09:18 in Boliqueime en-route to Faro airport, where he arrives at 09:43
This airport run is not mentioned in his blog.

DIARY
SATURDAY, JUNE 23:
I woke up after 7am hesitating (again!) about going running but eventually I built up enough enthusiasm to convince Gerry that we should go. He ran quite well and without a doubt it was worth us going.

Will we see her again one day? How can this end well now? She’s so precious. God I need you to do something soon. I’m so desperate and suffering so much.

This evening I felt quite low again. It's the awful uncertainty, helplessness and worry. It’s really unbearable. I only want to be able to hide or hibernate until this is all over and Madeleine is back. Please make sure she’s OK.

The usual—dinner, a few drinks and emails. Good night. Good night my darling, longing to lie down...

On 23rd, the first two records of the day were made on the antenna "Lagos" - 1:07:06 and 7:50:04, followed at 9:25:14 by the activation of the antenna "Praia da Luz Centre".

DIARY
SUNDAY, JUNE 24:
Oh, Madeleine, I find the nights so difficult and only God knows how things are going to find you. I just want to say, once again, that you have been the most special and amazing thing that ever happened to me.

I've never felt such love for another person. I hope and I trust that God and Mary are protecting you and I only know that Dad and I and all your wonderful family and friends will continue to search for you, and we all long for the day when you will be back with us again— FOREVER! XX

Good night. Good night darling. I love you XXXXXXXX

TUESDAY, JUNE 26: I went for a short walk to the shops nearby. I had heard that there was a paedophile there. Nice, isn't it?

If people informed us about these criminals of course we’d be more cautious and we'd feel safer!

Unfortunately I read two books of messages that had been delivered... There were three horrible ones. One from a former Met Police officer—very insensitive/ cruel and far from constructive! Another said "R.I.P. Maddie"—how appalling!

Well, not surprisingly I was very upset and I went out to the rocks on the beach. I cried a lot and spoke to Madeleine and to God. I was still not ready to go but Gerry was calling me. The police had arrived, as planned, at the apartment. I calmed down and went to the meeting with the police. Everything seems to be so slow. We finished at around 7pm so I went to be with the kids and tell them bedtime stories. I had dinner, had a few drinks despite having said I wanted it without alcohol!! We talked some more.

My darling Madeleine, I feel such fear and dread when I think of you. Every day and every night, it is TOO MUCH. I can only have hope and trust in God and Mary to look after you and bring you back to us soon.

I’m so sorry if I/we let you down. I hope you know how fond of you we are and that we would NEVER do anything intentionally that would put you in danger—of any kind. You are so precious to me. You make me so happy and I miss you so much. Please God, please Mary, keep watch over our sweet Madeleine. Keep her safe and sound and bring her back to us soon! X X

Reason for journey uknown. No blog mention or media reports. McQueen and Gill were collected from the airport yesterday.

From that record up to 9:41:45 on 27th all records were made on the repeaters of Luz. At that time - the first record of the day - the entry occurred on the antenna "Monte Alto IC4" returning to the Luz at 10:45:29. Kate's records being analysed, it appears that the couple have left Luz, after 7:54:26, returning at 9:58:19. On this trip, according to phone records of the mother of Madeleine, the most distant antenna to be activated is "Patac? 2" (a locality very close to Faro and its airport).

Our friends brought back my wallet

One of our friends from Amsterdam, who has been actively campaigning to publicise Madeleines disappearance, dropped in to see us for a couple of
hours since he is on a golfing trip in the Algarve.

http://mccannfiles.com/id178.html29 June 2007 Gerry uses his blog to report the return of his wallet, minus the Sterling but with his driving licence, credit cards and €30 in cash still inside. He blogs that there were also 'one or two other important things' returned, which presumably refers to the "irreplaceable" photographs of Madeleine. It is reported that the wallet was returned to the McCanns' previous address in Queniborough, in a stamped envelope, before being forwarded to the new address in Rothley. It is reported that the address was found listed/written/scrawled on a piece of paper inside the wallet. Brian Kennedy, Kate's uncle, suggests that either the thief decided to return it themselves or a passer-by found the discarded wallet and decided to return it. A postmark suggested it was sent from London on June 22. Gerry states in his blog that one of 'our friends' brought the wallet back to him in Praia da Luz, whilst they were visiting for the weekend. The 'friends' have remained unnamed.

29th June 2007... First activation of the day comes from Faro airport at 08:45
Back in Luz at 10:48
Another trip to Portimao today, arriving around 18:00

Paynes arrived in Portugal this morning
29/6 Gap: 21:35 - 23:55 29th - Only Gerry travelled to Faro airport this morning and also only his phone pinging in Portimao that evening. Upon Gerry's return to Luz, from Portimao, that evening, Kate's mobile begins a 2 hour 20 min interval in activations.

Early rise this morning dropping off and picking up good friends from the airport. One of our friends from Amsterdam, who has been actively campaigning to publicise Madeleines disappearance, dropped in to see us for a couple of hours since he is on a golfing trip in the Algarve.

Our friends brought back my wallet which had been returned, needless to say minus the Sterling, although all my cards and €30 were still in it! It is good to have my driving license back and one or two other important things.

On 29th, the first 4 activations (8:45:57, 8:46:35, 9:00:55 and 9:23:02) are on antenna "Faro Airport". All that follow ("Montenegro" - 9:33:48; "S.ta Barbara de Nexe" - 9:49:14; "Quartos" - 9:50:37 and 9:51:48; "Praia da Luz Centre" - 10:48:04) point to the return to the place where he resided while he was in our country.

On this day [the phone]
leaves and returns to the village where he was living between 18:03:05 and 21:36:37. During this time period are the records: "Portimao Centre" 18:03:05 and 18:09:35; "Portimao II" 19:08:27; "Portimao Centre" 19:08:54 and 19:11:35; "Portimao II" 19:13:11; "Portimao Centre" 19:24:53 and 19:27:00; "Portimao II" 19:28:30; "Portimao" 20:14:57; ;"Monte Alto IC4" 20:30:56 and "Praia da Luz Centre" 21:36:37.

As seen when an analysis was made of contacts of Fiona's mobile phone, there are no records in the period between 28 April and 22 May. The mobile phone records of this witness only occur between 29 June and 2 July (her 2nd presence in Portugal) and between 10 and 12 July (her 3rd presence).

.
On 29 June, at 12:32: 10, records from this mobile phone reappear [resurge].
_______________________________________________________
FOOTNOTE [1] Due to the proximity to the Faro airport, it is possible for the
mobile phone to activate that location.

_______________________________________________________
It would appear therefore that David Payne was absent from our country for 1 month and one week.
The reason for his return on this date are unknown, since there exist no records of investigation work assigned for that date
, nor anything recorded in the case file documents which might clarify it. The confrontation in which his wife (Fiona Payne) was present was [only] carried out on 11 July.
During that weekend there were:
7 records on 29th;
5 on 30th; and
2 on 1 July,
all on the antennae in the [parish] of Luz ("Luz (Lagos)").
From this date onwards there exist no other records in the data that was sent to us
[by the phone operators].

30th June... Quite alot of activity in a short period of time.
Between 14:59 and and 15:12 there were no less than 17 seperate activations listed in the records from the Luz antenna. That comes to 1.3 pings per minute. Way above the average.
The next ping after 15:12 comes at 17:02 (Luz Central)
The next ping comes at 21:12
Last activity of the day comes 2 minutes later.
  30/6 Gap: 18:28 - 20:25 and 20:49 - 22:54 30th - Large overlapping period of inactivity, around : 17:02 - 20:25

Family day spent with Sean, Amelie, our friends and their kids. Attended mass this evening which was conducted in English with prayers for Madeleine.

We have confirmed our new accommodation and will be moving in the next few days. We seem to have acquired a lot more stuff, partucularly the twins with lots of well wishers sending them toys. We will be
staying on Portugal for the immediate future and are determined to come home with Madeleine.

Staying in the Algarve also makes it easier to stay in touch with the Portuguese polce, this is particularly important with the investigation being so active. We have regular meetings and calls to keep
abreast of developments.

We completed our move to the new accommodation today.
It took longer than expected as we moved the thousands of
letters of suuport we have recieved and all the new toys.
These letters and messages of support have given us tremendous
encouragement and we would like to thank everyone who has taken
the time to write to us and to those who have donated to Madeleines
Fund, helping us continue the campaign to find Madeleine.

Most of this evening was spent on the phone and answering e-mails
finalising forthcoming campaign events. There should be some stuff
in the press in the next few days although we are very aware that the
recent terrorist activity will, quite rightly, continue to dominate the news.

Stolen Madeleine photos returned to father
By Fiona Govan in Sotogrande
Last Updated: 2:01am BST 02/07/2007

Gerry McCann, 39, was said to be delighted today at having two "irreplaceable" pictures of his abducted daughter back in his possession.

One picture is said to show Madeleine at 15 months old, while another was taken in church shortly before her disappearance on May 3.

The family had issued an appeal for their return after Mr McCann's wallet was taken by a pickpocket in Waterloo station hours after he arrived in the capital for a series of meetings about his global campaign to find his daughter.

At the time his sister described the theft as a "demoralising" sign of the times and urged the thief to do the right thing.

"I hope whoever took the wallet is so ashamed when they realise what they've just done that they get those pictures back to us as soon as possible," said Philomena McCann.

Following the appeal the wallet was posted to the McCanns' former house in Queniborough, Leicestershire, the address which was inside.

It was forwarded to their current home in nearby Rothley and then brought out to the couple in Praia da Luz, Portugal, by friends visiting at the weekend.

A postmark suggested it was sent from London on June 22, the day of the theft. Apart from a sum of sterling, everything else in the wallet - including Euros and his driving licence - was returned.

Brian Kennedy, Madeleine's great uncle, said Mr McCann was "pleased" the pictures had been recovered.

"Either someone with a conscience has realised who they had stolen it from and decided to return it, or it was discarded by the thief and sent to us by someone who found it," he said.

"I have spoken to Gerry and he is pleased. As far as I can tell, all the pictures that were in there of Madeleine are still there. It's a bit of good news, which we haven't had for some time."

In his daily blog on the official findmadeleine.com website Mr McCann wrote: "Our friends brought back my wallet which had been returned, needless to say minus the sterling, although all my cards and 30 euros were still in it!

"It is good to have my driving license back and one or two other important things," he wrote, referring to the photographs of his daughter who has now been missing for 60 days.

He also described the family's preparations to move out of the apartment complex where Madeleine was taken from her bed and find a more permanent base in the resort.

"We have confirmed our new accommodation and will be moving in the next few days," he wrote over the weekend, which was spent packing belongings into boxes

Phone call to the villa of Philip Wright, Casa Colina by GerryWe did a single interview today for the Portuguese media with a British journalist sitting in. The interview marked the fact that it is two months to the day since Madeleine was abducted. We took the opportunity to emphasise that we would be staying in Portugal for the immediate future and continuing the campaign to help find Madeleine. We also want to work closely with the media here in Portugal and engage closely with the Portuguese people who have been so supportive.

We were asked what was the hardest day since Madeleine disappeared and replied

that every day has been hard without Madeleine. We also stated that our determination to find Madeleine is matched by the Portuguese police and that we have a good working relationship with them. Our frequent meetings with the police help us stay informed, allow us to feed information into the investigation and let clarify information with senior officers conducting the investigation

The England rugby team wore Look for Madeleine T-shirts at their open training session in the Algarve today. I am looking forward to seeing the pictures tomorrow! We had a brief, private meeting with the RFU management team last night to thank them for this unprompted show of support which helps keep Madeleines disappearance high profile here in Portugal and at home.

We also met today with SOS Crianca, which is the main child welfare non-governmental organisation in Portugal. Similar to our meetings with child welfare groups and ministers in other countries, they feel our campaign to keep Madeleines profile high is correct. It was a very constructive meeting and they have offered to help support us in any way they can. It is likely we will travel to Lisbon at some point to meet with other agencies to see what advice they have for us and if we can help them. We hope the huge amount of goodwill that has been generated following Madeleines abduction can be translated into tangible benefits for the future and we very much want to work with the organisations trying to prevent child abduction and expoitation.

It was heartening for Kate and I to learn of the release today of Alan Johnston after almost 4 months in captivity. Although the circumstances of his kidnapping are very different to that of Madeleines, it still lifted us to see him being freed knowing

he will be reunited with his family shortly.

We also agree with the commentators who have stated his family have acted with tremendous dignity throughout and Alan himself appeared incredibly resilient and composed following his release. Our best wishes go to Alan and his family.

I would be grateful if the links to the entry written by me that you have added were not in red and not writ large. Also that the entry itself was in the same sized print (i.e. small) as all your own entries. I am not quite sure what is going on but if I have caused offense it was not intended.
